Assistance to British nationals

Can I obtain an Income Tax refund after working in the UK?

If you are not a UK citizen and have only been in the UK for the purpose of a work assignment you should complete form P85(S). If you are a UK citizen and have left or are about to leave the UK you should complete the form P85.

This helps the Inland Revenue decide how you should be treated for UK tax purposes after you leave. Click here for the Inland Revenue forms.

The completed form should be sent to the tax office dealing with your tax and you should enter your tax reference (if known) and National Insurance Number in the boxes at the top of the front page. Click here for a directory of local tax offices.
