Finding a job
All EU nationals have the right to look for work in Italy. There are growing opportunities in all industries especially in tourism, commerce and catering. Advanced technology is gradually making its presence known.
BEFORE LEAVING THE UNITED KINGDOM
- Have a look in newspapers like The Times, Financial Times, The Guardian, or the International Herald Tribune, for job adverts from other European countries;
- Look up the European Employment Services, EURES, a database offering all kinds of jobs all over Europe. Appointed Euroadvisors at local Job Centres also have access to the service;
- The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy publishes lists of British companies with associates in Italy.
ONCE YOU ARRIVE IN ITALY
If you have work, you must take a Permesso di Soggiorno to the police station, la questura (see our Residency and entry requirements page).
Keep an eye on the job section, Lavoro, of major Italian newspapers like Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Il Sole 24 Ore and Italia Oggi.
Consider speaking to an advisor at the local employment agency, centro per l'impiego, and signing on their registry: addresses available in telephone directory. Remember that not everybody will speak English.
Most international job-centres have opened in Italian cities too.
Most major Italian cities have a list of English-language publications where ads are placed by both Italian and international companies.
