Think Green: code of conduct
Working towards improving our environmental performance: what we can do
Save Paper:
Think before you push the "print" command: do you really need a paper copy or a personal copy? Do you need the whole document? Use electronic filing where possible. When possible use the 'gold fax' to electronically send faxes direct from your PC. It is more cost/energy efficient to photocopy rather than print. Print long documents double sided;
Recycle:
Always use the Recycling Bin for unclassified used white paper (first re-using if possible) and the newspaper bin for old newspapers. Return used printer cartridges to Distribution Section (Management) for recycling, ideally in the original packaging/box;
Save Energy:
Switch off unnecessary lights and electrical appliances. Make sure you switch off your office lights and screen when you go out. Cut down your use of the lift - after all walking up stairs is better for you! Only boil the water you need in the kettle. PC Monitors should be switched off at night. All printers and standalone PCs can be switched off when not in use;
Travel:
Why not use public transport, cycle or walk to work when you can?
Travel for work:
Is the meeting necessary or could a phone call take care of the business? Use the Embassy video conferencing facility, particularly for meetings with colleagues in London or Milan.
