Think Green: sustainable procurement policy
The implementation of a sustainable procurement policy led the Embassy to the following choices:
- Stipulation of a “green energy” contract ("Ecoenergia") with AceaElectrabel (until the 2006 the British Embassy was the only international organisation which has signed this contract);
- Recycled paper with a TUV brand– Nordic Environmental Label - DER BLUE ENGEL – Greenpeace;
- Wood and furniture: purchase of furniture with FSC – Forest Stewardship Council brand; 8mm heat insulating glass; energy saving light bulbs; toilets with automatic Red X-ray sensing system;
- IT equipment: PCs with TCO99 brand; double sided printers;
- Transport: purchase of the first hybrid car for official use;
- Suppliers are selected considering the criteria of Social Responsibility and Green Procurement, according to the European norms.
